Langaa Bioenergy – Upgrade and Modernization of an Existing Biogas Plant.

Lundsby has carried out an extensive upgrade of the Langå Bioenergi biogas plant in close collaboration with the client. The aim of the project was to modernise the plant whilst enhancing its capacity, operational reliability and flexibility in day-to-day operations.

The work was carried out while the plant remained in operation, which placed high demands on planning and coordination to ensure minimal disruption to production.

A key part of the project was the conversion of an existing storage tank into a primary reactor tank. The previous membrane was removed, after which the tank was cleaned, repaired, and re-insulated. At the same time, new service hatches and improved agitation solutions were installed, and an external heat exchanger was connected to optimize the biological process.

The upgrade also included the installation of a new piping system connecting both existing installations and new plant components. The system includes new pipes for raw slurry and substrate, as well as a new gas line that enhances the plant’s robustness and operational reliability.

As part of the project, a new feeding system for solid biomass has also been installed. A Premix line and a BIG-MIX feeding module are located in a new insulated technical building, which allows for better handling of the biomass and greater operational flexibility.

With this upgrade, Langå Bioenergi now stands as a modernized biogas plant that is better equipped to meet future demands for biogas production. The project also demonstrates how existing biogas plants can be upgraded and further developed so that they continue to contribute to stable and sustainable energy production.
