Disc Seeder by CMN Maskintec - An Innovative Solution for Precise Cover Crop Sowing in Maize

CMN Maskintec presents the Disc Seeder Type FRHS 900, a cutting-edge machine designed for precise cover crop sowing in maize. Developed in close collaboration with Henriks Markservice, this machine combines advanced precision technology, a gentle design, and significant fuel savings. The Disc Seeder has received notable recognition at Agromek 2024, earning two stars in the Agromek Stars category for field equipment. Visitors can see the machine live at Agromek 2024 in Hall M, Stand 9852, where it is expected to draw considerable attention from farmers and contractors.

The partnership between Claus Harrild, Sales Director and co-owner of CMN Maskintec, and Henrik Pedersen, owner of Henriks Markservice, has been a key driving force behind the development of the Disc Seeder. Henrik Pedersen praises the collaboration, stating:

“Claus Harrild and CMN have been extremely receptive. This has made development both faster and precise in meeting the needs we see in the field. The machine has already covered more than 500 hectares in its first season with minimal downtime. It’s a pleasure working with a partner who has such a deep understanding of our needs.”

Gentle and Efficient Sowing
The Disc Seeder Type FRHS 900 is available with working widths of six, nine, and twelve meters. It features double disc openers and individually mounted seeding units, along with hydraulic pressure regulation that ensures precise control over sowing depth and seed placement on each unit, with minimal soil disturbance.

Fuel Savings and Minimal Soil Compaction
Henrik Pedersen also highlights the machine’s lightweight construction, which makes it compatible with tractors as low as 150 hp. With a nine-meter working width, Henriks Markservice has achieved fuel savings, using just under two liters of diesel per hectare with a capacity of up to 60 hectares per day. Pedersen is very pleased:

“The Disc Seeder allows us to keep diesel costs low while avoiding soil compaction. This is beneficial both for the economy and soil structure.”

Precision with 3D Camera Control
The Disc Seeder can be equipped with an HD guidance frame and 3D camera control, adding another level of precision. The camera ensures that the Disc Seeder accurately follows rows, even with deviations from the AB line, achieving optimal seed placement between maize rows and reducing overlap risk. Claus Harrild underscores the camera’s importance for precision sowing:

“The side-shift mechanism ensures we avoid overlap and maintain an exact distance from the maize plants. This reduces competition for nutrients and prevents crop damage,” explains Henrik Pedersen. The machine can also be fitted with a 37.5 cm side-shift, allowing it to operate over three rows, providing a stable platform for the tractor.

Cost Savings and Efficient Establishment of Cover Crops

The Disc Seeder can reduce seed usage by 10-15 percent, lowering costs and decreasing competition for nutrients for the maize. By sowing at the right time, when the maize has four to five leaves, the machine ensures strong establishment of cover crops, which effectively cover the soil after maize harvest.

Ready for Launch at Agromek 2024
Following a successful testing phase, the CMN Disc Seeder Type FRHS 900 is now market-ready and will be showcased at Agromek in Hall M, Stand 9852. The machine has already earned two stars in the Agromek Stars news review for field equipment, representing a major innovation in the agricultural sector. With over 200,000 hectares of maize in Denmark and more than 10 million hectares in the EU, the potential for the Disc Seeder is significant.

“We look forward to presenting the Disc Seeder as a solution that combines precision, cost savings, and sustainability,” says Claus Harrild. “With this machine, farmers can achieve better cover crop establishment with lower resource use.”
