Product description:
GreenFarm FlexControl enables an on-farm biogas plant to automatically regulate itself based on gas storage levels, electricity prices and the farm’s own power consumption. Feedstock input is automatically adjusted to ensure that no more methane is produced than the combined heat and power (CHP) units can utilise, thereby avoiding flaring. The CHP units operate when electricity prices are at their highest, while the plant’s own power consumption is shifted away from the farm’s peak demand periods. The result is greater value from the same amount of slurry and reduced methane emissions to the atmosphere.

Expert description:
GreenFarm FlexControl is a control system for on-farm biogas plants designed to optimise the utilisation of both gas and electricity production. A typical GreenFarm biogas plant has a gas storage capacity of 300-600 m³ and, with a biogas production rate of 40 Nm³/h, the storage can hold between 7 and 15 hours of production when six engines are operating at full load. FlexControl uses this gas storage capacity for price-based control, optimising electricity sales during periods of the highest electricity prices, typically peak-demand hours.
The value of the electricity produced depends on whether it is consumed on the farm, thereby avoiding the purchase of electricity including tariffs and taxes, or sold on the spot market. The price-control function is linked to the biogas plant’s feedstock input system, enabling automatic optimisation of biomass feeding to ensure that methane production does not, over time, exceed the plant’s utilisation capacity.
