Lundsby Renewable Solutions A/S have signed an EPC contract for the design and construction of a new large-scale biogas plant project in Kiuruvesi, Finland, undertaken by Suomen Lantakaasu Oy. This facility, a central component of the Upper Savo biogas complex, marks a significant step forward in renewable energy and circular resource utilization in Finland.

The Kiuruvesi biogas plant will convert agricultural waste, including manure from over 100 local farms, into renewable liquefied biogas (LBG). With the capacity to process 460,000 tonnes of biomass annually, the plant will produce approximately 125 GWh of liquefied biogas each year. This output is estimated to an energy equivalent needed for 250 heavy-duty vehicles p.a., emphasizing the project’s role in supporting Finland’s green transition and reducing transport-related emissions.

The groundwork phase has already been finalized and construction of the biogas plant will begin this winter. The plant will be completed in 2026.

“Our partnership with Suomen Lantakaasu in this project represents a shared vision for sustainable energy and resource use, and we are looking forward to contribute our high-level expertise and know-how to the Kiuruvesi biogas plant,” says Karsten Hjorth, CBDO, from Lundsby Renewable Solutions A/S.
