Viking SmartFarming Foderbord makes feed accounting digital

AI-based solution automatically measures feed refusals using barn cameras and is recognised as a two-star Agromek innovation.
VikingDanmark presents SmartFarming Foderbord, which automatically measures how much feed remains on the feed bunk and when it is empty. The solution uses cameras installed in the barn and combines the measurements with data from the mixer wagon in a digital feed accounting system.
An edge computer in the barn retrieves images from the cameras and analyses them using an AI model. Based on a designated reference area on the feed bunk, the model measures how large an area remains covered with feed. This enables the system to monitor changes throughout the day and detect events such as feed deliveries, feed pushing, periods without feed, and leftover feed.
Data from the feed bunk is linked with weighing data from the mixer wagon. Through an open API, the information can be transferred to the farmer’s feeding management system, allowing the next ration to be adjusted on the basis of recorded data rather than estimates alone.
The Agromek judging committee has awarded SmartFarming Foderbord two stars. In its final assessment, the committee particularly highlights the automatic measurement of feed refusals and the integration of mixer wagon data into a single digital feed accounting system.
“Viking SmartFarming Foderbord automatically measures the amount of feed on the feed bunk using cameras installed in the barn. The measurements are combined with data from the mixer wagon in a single digital feed accounting system, enabling adjustments to be made to the next ration. The result is less feed waste and fewer hours with an empty feed bunk,” the judging panel states.
VikingDanmark emphasises that the system can operate using the existing camera setup and edge computer in the barn and deliver data through an open interface.
