Individual feeding aims to produce more uniform gilts

JYGA SELECT from Best Farm is a two-star Agromek News innovation that enables individual gilts to be fed according to their specific requirements throughout the rearing period.
Uniform growth and body condition are important in gilt rearing, but with traditional group feeding it can be difficult to control feed intake for individual animals. With JYGA SELECT, Best Farm, in cooperation with JYGA GESTAL Technologies, has developed a solution specifically designed for individual feeding of gilts from approximately 20 kg through to breeding.
The system identifies each gilt individually and enables feed to be allocated according to its specific requirements. At the same time, two feed formulations can be combined throughout the rearing period, allowing the feeding curve to be adjusted continuously. An activator in the feeder is designed to make training straightforward, enabling gilts to learn to use the system quickly.
The installation allows users to monitor information such as whether individual gilts have eaten, while feeding curves for each animal can be adjusted via a mobile phone. Information can also be accessed on a laptop, enabling feeding activity and performance to be monitored across different devices.
In its final assessment, Agromek’s judging panel highlighted that the system makes it possible to feed each gilt precisely according to its individual needs while continuously combining two feed formulations. This is considered to provide better opportunities to optimise growth rates and body condition and to produce more uniform gilts at breeding. The judges also noted that the user-friendly interface and focus on easy animal training support practical day-to-day use within the herd. Agromek’s judging panel has awarded the innovation two stars.
