HARDI AutoTerrainPro anticipates boom movements in the field

New boom management system combines a chassis sensor, ultrasound and specially developed hydraulics and is awarded a two-star Agromek News.

HARDI INTERNATIONAL A/S presents AutoTerrainPro, a new boom management system for TWIN FORCE booms from 24 to 36 metres and DELTA FORCE booms from 24 to 39 metres. The system has been developed to keep the boom more stable under varying field conditions.

Where traditional boom control systems primarily react to ultrasonic sensors measuring the distance to the soil or crop, AutoTerrainPro also monitors the machine’s own movements. A dynamic chassis sensor measures roll and pitch the moment the wheels encounter uneven ground, allowing the control system to begin counteracting the movement before it reaches the boom.

The system combines the chassis sensor with ultrasonic measurement and can operate in Soil Mode, Crop Mode or Hybrid Mode. In Hybrid Mode, the distance to both the soil surface and the top of the crop is calculated, providing more robust control in situations such as uneven crop emergence and lodged crops.

AutoTerrainPro also includes a specially designed centre section, HARDI’s SmartCylinder and a proportional hydraulic system. SmartCylinder combines damping, locking, tilt control and spring functionality within a single hydraulic unit, while the hydraulic system controls boom height, tilt and individual wing tilt.

Agromek’s judging panel has awarded AutoTerrainPro two stars. In its final assessment, the panel particularly highlighted the interaction between the dynamic chassis sensor and the ultrasonic sensors, which makes it possible to counteract oscillations proactively rather than only correcting them after they have occurred.

“The system has been developed to ensure maximum boom stability under varying field conditions. The dynamic chassis sensor detects machine movements before they affect the boom and, in combination with the ultrasonic sensors, provides a steadier boom. This allows oscillations to be counteracted proactively rather than simply corrected afterwards.”

According to HARDI, the improved boom stability makes it possible to operate at a lower boom height, thereby reducing spray drift. AutoTerrainPro also includes AutoFold and can be ordered for both TWIN FORCE and DELTA FORCE booms.
