SEGES, With ESGreenTool Climate 2, egg suppliers gain new insights into the climate footprint of eggs - Danish news
Product description:
With the new egg module, you can calculate the climate footprint for table eggs in ESGreenTool Climate 2. The climate footprint is calculated both as a product footprint, meaning the climate impact of producing 1 kg of eggs (kg CO2e per kg of eggs), and as the farm footprint for all egg production, which is part of the farm's total climate footprint. The calculation includes the climate impact of the hens, consumed feed, heating, and more. You can also test the effects of CO2-reducing measures in the Scenario Calculator and compare different scenarios with each other.
Expert description:
Egg have a completely new and unique tool for calculating the climate footprint from egg production with the new egg module in ESGreenTool Climate 2. It is the first time in Denmark that a calculation tool can determine the product footprint for eggs.
In ESGreenTool Climate 2, the egg producer can now set up all their barns and egg-producing flocks, specifying the total consumption of feed, manure production, heating consumption, electricity, bedding use, and more. Initially, the user manually enters data about their egg production on the calculation basis page of the program. The new egg module calculates the product footprint per kg of produced eggs. The calculation is based on current registrations from the individual farm, rather than on nutrient accounting data.
This tool will be a tremendous help for the egg producer in relation to ESG reporting. To meet the growing demand from retailers for documentation of climate impact, the calculation tool can be used to provide the necessary data for the packing facility.
The calculation tool can also assess the effect of potential climate measures, allowing the producer to choose the best strategies for the upcoming flock in the barn.
