Yding Smedie Launches Hybrid Solution for Weed Control with FarmDroid

21/10/2024

New hybrid technology combines mechanical and precision spraying for effective weed control and has been awarded two stars at Agromek.

Yding Smedie A/S presents a new hybrid solution for weed control that merges the best of mechanical methods with conventional spraying techniques. The FarmDroid micro-spraying system utilizes precision technology to spray plant protection products or fertilizers precisely on the plants, reducing the need for herbicides by up to 94 percent. This benefits both the environment and lowers operational costs.

The FarmDroid FD20 employs RTK GPS technology to accurately identify and spray crops, enabling targeted spraying on just six percent of the field, while the remaining 94 percent is treated mechanically with the robot’s blades, knives, and discs. This ensures an environmentally friendly and cost-effective solution for farmers.

Additionally, the FarmDroid is equipped with innovative electric Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) nozzles, ensuring precise dosing of plant protection products and fertilizers. The system includes two 55-liter tanks and features a fully automatic cleaning function, making it easy to use and maintain.

The Agromek news panel has awarded this innovation two stars, noting that the solution can save farmers up to 90 percent on spraying agents while achieving high precision in both sowing and weed control. Further, the robot is electrically powered and charges via solar energy, allowing farmers to reduce their CO2 footprint and eliminate the need for diesel for operation.

The FarmDroid system represents the future of weed control, and Yding Smedie believes this technology will be crucial for meeting future stricter regulations regarding herbicide use and adapting to the challenges farmers face with weed resistance.
