Dan Egtved Launches EspaFLEX: Ammonia-reducing Rubber Flooring for Barns

An innovative solution that reduces ammonia evaporation and enhances animal welfare has been awarded two stars at Agromek.
Dan Egtved A/S presents EspaFLEX, an innovative ammonia-reducing rubber mat designed for slatted floors. EspaFLEX is engineered to minimize slat openings while featuring a slope that allows manure to quickly flow into the manure channel, thereby reducing ammonia evaporation by up to 38%. This solution improves both hoof health and animal welfare by ensuring a dry and comfortable surface for the animals.
The EspaFLEX mat can be used on all types of slatted floors, as it is produced to custom specifications and can be installed in both old barns and new constructions. The mat works with all types of scrapers and is secured using patented rubber nails directly in the slat openings. It is manufactured with a thickness of 18-33 mm and is partially made from recycled rubber, including materials from tires.
The mat features a built-in slope of 3%, ensuring proper drainage of manure and reducing ammonia evaporation. This solution allows for fewer slat openings, which further decreases evaporation from the manure channel. The rapid drainage of the rubber mat also provides a dry and slip-resistant floor, states the Agromek judges' panel, awarding the innovation two stars.
